Mr. Shehata has more than 30 years of experience advising and representing local and international clients through previous work in the offices of Al Kamel Law Office, Dentons’ Cairo office (previously Denton Wilde Sapte) and lately Zaki Hashem & Partners, in which Mr. Shehata served as senior partner for the past 14 years.

Mr. Shehata has acquired extensive experience in corporate law, banking and project finance, as well as in other fields of commercial, civil and labor law. He participated in several major project finance and facility agreements. To name a few, he represented Arab African International Bank (“AAIB”) with respect to its Syndicate Term Facility Loan for USD 250 Million and EGP 50 Million to one of the companies of the Beshay Steel Group; the Egyptian Sponge Iron and Steel Company S.A.E. for the purpose of partially financing the establishment of a direct reduction of iron production facility. He also represented Egyptian Fertilizer Company (“EFC”) in the USD 600,000,000 credit facility agreement granted by the Arab African International Bank, Barclays Bank Egypt S.A.E and other banks and financial institutions for the purpose of refinancing the existing facilities taken by EFC.

Since 2009, Mr. Shehata headed the Arbitration Department at Zaki Hashem & Partners, where he handled several local and international commercial arbitrations involving both public and private entities relating, inter alia, to construction, commercial agencies, acquisition of shares, sale and purchase agreements and insurance, under most major arbitration centers, including the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Swiss Chambers of Commerce (SCC), the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the London Maritime Arbitrators Association (LMAA), and the Cairo Regional Centre for International Commercial Arbitration (CRCICA). One of Mr. Shehata'S major successes in 2015 was wining the high profile Vodafone Egypt arbitration dispute against Telecom Egypt in which Telecom Egypt claimed an amount exceeding EGP 10.2 billion in an interconnection prices dispute.

Education: Master of Laws (LL.M.) in International Business Law, the “Institut de Droit des Affaires Internationales” of the Universities of Cairo and Paris I (Panthéon-Sorbonne) in 1991; Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.), Faculty of Law, Ain Shams University, 1985.

Bar admission and society memberships: Mr. Shehata is admitted before the Court of Cassation since 2004; a fellow member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; a member of the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA); a member of the Egyptian Society for International Law; and a member of the American Chamber of Commerce in Egypt.
